Description from the seller
Masque Dan Kran
A beautiful wooden Dan Kran mask with exaggerated and grotesque features. The forehead is dome-shaped above the holes for the eyes, which are in the form of an inverted triangle. The cheeks are two semi-circular wings on the sides, and the nose is large and hooked with flared nostrils. The mouth protrudes forward, open with fleshy lips. The sides of the mask are pierced for attaching a separate raphia beard.
The Dan Kran are a people related to the Dan who live in the southern part of the Dan territory. They create powerful geometric masks for their respective functions. These masks are known as Kagle and are used in dances characterized by aggressive movements, full costumes, and hooked sticks. Kagle is known as a troublemaker and represents the brute force of nature in the bush, as well as the animals and spirits that inhabit it.
