At the beginning of autumn, precisely from mid-September to mid-October, the mating season begins. During this period, males, which usually live in small monospecific groups, separate and start challenging each other by bellowing to claim possession of females from other suitors. The one who can bellow the loudest, intimidating others with his call, will prevail. The strength and power of the bellow depend on the animal's size and living conditions.

The powerful roar of the deer (a midway between a bovine moo and a roar) serves precisely for rivals to understand who they are facing: only when their vocal abilities are equal do the males confront each other in the open field.

The noble deer, also known as the royal deer, red deer, or European deer, is a mammal belonging to the family of Cervids.
