Description from the seller

Carmen, bronze, 27.5x21.5x18, signature on the comb
Davide Calandra: Italian sculptor and student of Odoardo Tabacchi.
After graduating from high school in classical studies (1876) he attended the studio of Giuseppe Dini and Balzico.
His sculpture was initially influenced by literary and academic inspirations in Royal Tiger (1883) and then managed to redeem a certain monumental rhetoric with vibrant, almost pictorial surfaces and effects of adherence to Liberty as in the monument to Prince Amedeo of Savoy, Turin, Valentino Park (1902).
Worthy of mention are the monuments to Garibaldi (Parma); to Zanardelli (Brescia, 1909); and to King Umberto I (Rome, 1906).
He joined the Artists' Circle in 1879 and took an active part in it: he was appointed to the Steering Committee in 1891, and became President in 1914 and 1915.
The signature is present on the comb of the sculpture but the casting in this case leaves it only glimpsed.
