Description from the seller
In the Asta, an excellent Carl Zeiss Tele-Tessar 200mm f/3.5 telephoto lens with Contax/Yashica (C/Y) mount was introduced in 1975. It was the first true medium telephoto lens in the Contax RTS system, distinguished by a modified Petzval-type optical design that ensures high-quality images in a surprisingly compact body for its focal length.
The multistrato t (t-star)* coating ensures warm, saturated colors and high contrast, drastically reducing reflections. Unlike many telephoto lenses of the era, this model boasts extremely low field curvature and astigmatism, providing uniform, sharp rendering across the entire frame, making it ideal for distant portraits, architectural details, and wildlife photography.
Technical specifications and conditions (from the attached test).
The condition is good. The small barrel shows signs of external use ('decent'), normal for its age, which do not compromise the typical robustness of Zeiss construction. The mechanics are impeccable: the focus ring moves smoothly and precisely, while the diaphragm is responsive and functioning.
The lenses are in very good condition, clean, and without significant optical imperfections. The bayonet shows signs of use ('modest, used') but ensures a secure fit. The lot also includes the rare original box and the front cap of Contax, making it an interesting piece both for practical use (even on digital cameras via adapters) and for collectors.
