†Carpopenaeus callirostris, an aesthetic large fossil shrimp specimen from the Upper Cretaceous Cenomanian of the Sannine Formation in Lebanon, preserved in natural condition with slight excavation and surface stabilisation including minor color enhancement.

Location: Hjoula, Byblos, Lebanon
Geological Formation: Sannine Formation
Age: Upper Cretaceous, Cenomanian stage (~94 million years)
Size: 11cm long - Matrix: 14x10x1cm
Ref: S320
Observations: Beautiful, aesthetic and with unusual large size specimen. These fossil shrimps (Carpopenaeus species) comes from the famous Cretaceous outcrops of Lebanon. These fossil deposits were first mentioned by the Greek historian Herodotus where he said there were "fish in the stones".
Regarding restorations, repairs, and lab stabilization: Its outline has simply been slightly excavated to make it stand out (highligh) from its natural matrix. A stabilizer has also been applied to their surface for better preservation. It has a little of color enhancement applied, that also serve as stabilizer.
