Eugene Grasset - Enchantement

Eugène Grasset designed the illustrated cover for the sheet music of Jules Massenet's song (melody) titled 'Enchantement.' The music, with lyrics by Jules Ruelle, was published around 1890-1892 by the Parisian publisher Heugel et Cie.

The leaf has stains, discoloration, and has been folded. However, thanks to the high-quality framing behind museum glass, it remains very attractive.

Gargastes' design is a well-known example of the Art Nouveau style and is considered a decorative artwork in itself. The illustration depicts a fairy-tale, ethereal image that perfectly matches Massenet's romantic music. The original artwork is exhibited, among other places, at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles.
