Population: 4/6
Quality: MintState 63
Extra info
Rare half kupang or 1/8 silver of one of the first Rulers of the Muslim Kingdom in North Sumatra (present-day Indonesia). We identify these coins according to the reference work by J. Leyten, but in accordance with the timeline, the dating is actually incorrect. Ahmad is the grandson of the first Sultan (Malikussaleh or al-Malik al-Ṣālih) and also the namesake of the Sultanate he founded in 1267, ruling until 1297. Leyten states in his book that the coins bearing Ahmad I's name were struck between 1270 and 1295; however, this seems highly illogical to us, and we therefore use a date after 1297 up to the successor Sultan Al-Malik azh-Zhahir II.
