Fifty uncleaned Oviraptor sp. eggshells (Dinosaurus) from the Cretaceous period, natural condition, originating from China, with dimensions 23 mm high, 16 mm wide and 1 mm deep, weighing 15 g.
Description from the seller
Beautiful set of 50 eggshells of Oviraptor, an extinct genus of dinosaurs. Oviraptor lived during the Cretaceous period in the Mongolia and China region.
Only incomplete skeletons of Oviraptor have been found. For this reason, the exact appearance of the animal remains uncertain. What is certain is that Oviraptor resembled a bird and was related to them. Oviraptor was warm-blooded and had feathers. Its claws were quite large, and it walked on its hind legs with a beak. What it ate is not known. Since the first fossil of Oviraptor was found on a nest, it was thought that it was stealing eggs, hence the name which means 'egg thief.' Later, it was established that the nest must have contained Oviraptor's own eggs. Complete Oviraptor eggs are very rare and expensive. Loose eggshells are also becoming increasingly scarce. These eggshells have been in my collection for several decades. Notably, Oviraptor eggshells vary in color. Some shells are black/gray, while others are red or yellow. The eggshells have fine ridges, as seen in the photos. The shells have not yet been cleaned. Their sizes range from 23 mm to 7 mm.
