Mahogany Obsidian Mexican Sculptural Natural Block, weighing 5044 g with dimensions 222 × 165 × 150 mm, origin Messico.
Description from the seller
This mahogany obsidian from Mexico, worked in a polished freeform shape, presents itself as an authentic natural block transformed into a sculptural object. The stone retains an irregular yet balanced morphology, shaped solely through polishing, which respects its original structure and enhances its surfaces without artificial alterations. The color is one of its most distinctive elements: a strong contrast between deep, glassy black and broad reddish-brown veins, typical of this obsidian. These lighter areas are due to micro-inclusions of iron oxides, which interrupt the dark mass, creating irregular, layered, and dynamic patterns. Obsidian is a natural volcanic glass formed by the rapid cooling of silica-rich lava. The mahogany variety is particularly appreciated because it combines the elegance of black obsidian with warm, earthy tones, less common than uniform obsidians. Mexican deposits, in particular, are known for their chromatic quality and material density. The polishing is carried out with great care, highlighting the vitreous luster and creating sharp, deep reflections that emphasize the sense of volume and the material presence of the piece. Small surface irregularities or micro-scratches are considered natural and consistent with the volcanic origin of the material; they are not defects but traces of its geological history. This specimen is ideal as a striking decorative object, for mineral collectors, natural stone enthusiasts, or for modern and minimalist environments that require an authentic sculptural element. It also fits perfectly in settings such as professional studios, galleries, curiosity cabinets, or spaces dedicated to natural design, where the material itself becomes the protagonist.
