Description from the seller
THE BUGATTI QUEEN is the beautifully illustrated story of an unstoppable and fascinating woman, a pioneer in motorsport who enjoyed danger. Helene Delangle, also known as Hellé Nice, was born in 1900 in a small French village and became a dancer and stripper before catching Ettore Bugatti's attention. Drawn by the combination of machines and speed, Hellé Nice had an unprecedented career. She participated in numerous Grand Prix races and was the only woman to race on the treacherous American speed bowls in the 1930s. She set new land speed records before a notorious accident nearly ended her racing days.
Miranda Seymour reveals the story of an unforgettable life and sheds new light on the extraordinary and reckless world of motor racing between the wars.
Attention!
This is the sought-after HARDCOVER edition (first edition) and not the later published paperback version of the book.
