Gerrit Rietveld is the author/illustrator of Schroder Huis 1924, a first edition architecture booklet in a soft cover, 32 pages, 25 by 25 cm, originally Dutch with English, French and German texts, published in 1963 as part of a limited run of 2,000 copies, containing 8 folded sheets printed lithographically and offset, with signs of handling and a lightly stained spine, and not shipped to the United States.
Description from the seller
8 sheets folded into envelopes for a total of 32 pages, printed by lithography and offset.
Booklet dedicated to an aesthetic exploration of the Schroeder house.
Architectural renderings by Gerrit Rietveld from 1924, handwritten notes and sketches by Rietveld from 1963, as well as photographs and graphics by Pieter Brattinga.
Dutch, English, French, German.
First limited edition of 2,000 units.
Signs of manipulation and the back cover slightly stained with an 8 cm slit.
'Kwadraat-Bladen' was the original idea of graphic designer Pieter Brattinga (1931–2004).
He set out to prove that his family’s printing house, De Jong & Co, was the best in the Netherlands by publishing a magazine that would surprise its readers with its radical content, unusual format, and cutting-edge production techniques.
None of these publications were for sale; they were distributed to friends and associates by De Jong as self-promotions.
34 'Kwadraat-Bladen' were published between 1955 and 1974.
No delivery to the United States due to the new legislation.
