Lot description
Collection consisting of an attractive AVRO postage stamp album 'Netherlands and Colonies' and a rare advertising seal album 'Album for Seal Stamps' from bakery Th. Vesseur in Utrecht. Both items date from the early part of the 20th century and together form a beautiful ensemble for enthusiasts of Dutch philately and advertising print material.
AVRO stamp album 'Netherlands and Colonies' – approximately 371 stamps, 1852–approximately 1925
Beautiful, mostly filled AVRO album in its original binding, approximately 28.5 × 21 cm in size.
Contains approximately 371 mainly stamped stamps from the Netherlands and (partly) colonies, with early issues of King Willem III, various Wilhelmina series (including fur collar and 'flying dove'), postage and service stamps, and some overprints from the years 1920–1923.
Number of pages: 47, with pre-printed boxes for each year/series.
Condition: album in neat, used condition with light yellowing; stamps in mixed, collectible quality (possibly small perforation damages or discolorations).
Advertising stamp album 'Album for Stamps' – Pastry shop Th. Vesseur, Utrecht – circa 1915–1930
Beautiful and rare advertising seal album from bakery Th. Vesseur, company H.N. Tander, Utrecht (Biltstraat 29 and Nachtegaalstraat 23). The album was issued as a savings system for customers and is partly filled with colorful advertising and picture seals from various Dutch and foreign companies, with a strong Utrecht signature.
In the album, among others,
L. Ravestijn, Utrecht – Coffee and Tea Trade (rider scenes).
Jan Blijdesteijn & Co, 'De Koffiebaal', Utrecht – children's and genre scenes.
• Fernandez Schmitz's coffee and tea, P. Mesch Champagne Cider (Utrecht), Viking insulating building panel, Hutchinson tires, and various tourist series (including cityscapes of Berlin).
It is an original store album filled by customers themselves; the stamps are directly glued onto the pages.
Album dimensions: approx. 32 cm high × 24 cm wide.
Condition: used but honest state, with wear, discoloration, small tears at the edges, and some spots appropriate to the age. Loose inner pages with various, partly complete series; stamps range from good to fair condition, sometimes with slight damage from sticking. Spine mostly intact, no recent restorations visible.
Particulars
Nice combination of an early AVRO postage stamp album and a regional advertising seal album.
Interesting for collectors of Dutch philately, advertising print material, picture albums, and Utrecht history.
Shipping
Both albums are carefully packaged, shipped flat in sturdy cardboard packaging, and shipped insured.
