Description from the seller
AUSTRIA. Vienna. 2 Schilling. 1934
Valor: 2 Schilling.
Year: 1934.
Inscription: DR. ENGELBERT DOLLFUSS surrounding the bust to the right with the dates 1892–1934; OESTERREICH with the double-headed eagle and the value 2 S on the reverse.
- Grade: MS63 (NGC).
Commemorative coin issued after the death of Engelbert Dollfuss, Austria's federal chancellor murdered in 1934, a key figure of the Austrofascist period prior to the Anschluss. The obverse features a sober and realistic portrait of Dollfuss, in right profile, with well-modeled facial features and natural treatment of the hair, while the reverse shows the Austrian double-headed eagle with a central shield, a symbol of the federal state. The specimen retains an attractive original tone with residual luster visible on fields and reliefs, showing slight contact marks consistent with a grade of MS63. A piece of notable historical and political interest within Austrian numismatics of the interwar period.
