Beatriz Milhazes Rio Azul - White Cube

This exhibition highlighted Milhazes' explorations across a variety of media, including painting, installation, sculpture, collage, and her first tapestry. In a new series of paintings, reminiscent of the flattened sense of space in Matisse's paper cut-outs and the colorful compositions of modernist painter and designer Sonia Delaunay, Milhazes continues to use a palette of vibrant, lively colors, with 'neo-concretist' and geometric shapes. Circular forms, abstract and floral motifs, and solid expanses of monochromatic colors contrast with parallel or wavy lines; images that echo both the tropical profusion of native Brazilian flora and the delicate transparency and lattice features of her modernist architecture.
