Description from the seller

Mukenge Mask
Made in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the second half of the 20th century by a group belonging to the Kuba tribe.
The Mukenge helmet mask symbolizes the sovereign Woot, founder of the clan.
The mask is made on a frame woven in the shape of a helmet, entirely covered with hundreds of beads and shells, and further adorned with fibers, skins, and furs. The proboscis is typical of these masks and signifies well-being, as it resembles the elephant, an animal symbolizing wealth and abundance.
Excellent condition, despite the years.
The metal base is part of the lot.
