Ancient Roman yellow speckled jasper intaglio with the bust of Asclepius. The intaglio is really very good incised for its size. The god is facing left, the back in three-quarters. He is laureated and with his stick intertwined by a snake (Rod of Asclepius). Around, greek letters most probably the name of the owner of the intaglio. In Greek and Roman mythology, Asclepius is considered the god of medicine, healing, rejuvenation and physicians.

Date: Roman, ca. 1st - 2nd century AD
Material: yellow speckled jasper
Size: ca. 0,9 cm
Condition: some iron residues
Provenance: Ex French collection, formed before 1980.
