Description from the seller

Rare. Original edition of this beautiful illustrated work, dedicated to the life and work of Henry Chapront (1876-1965), a symbolist painter, book artist, and aquatintist.

Copy enriched with a beautiful note from the artist to Paul Marteau (1885-1966): [in all spiritual communion, friendly memory of Henry Chapront].

Decorated with 33 illustrations, including a beautiful engraved frontispiece (Verlaine) signed by Chapront and hand-numbered, limited to 50 copies for this deluxe edition (No. 32). It features 4 relief etchings, a vignette enhanced with watercolor, and numerous figures within the text.

Softcover, with a cover illustrated with a wood-engraved portrait of the artist.
In good condition. Yellowed covers with a small stain on the fourth and upper rusted part. Slightly worn spine. The first endpaper is creased with a small tear at the hinge. Otherwise, the interior is fresh and clean. Very beautiful print of the engravings. A fine copy.

Gossez, A.-M.
Henry Chapront, aquatint artist. Preferred by Philéas Lebesgue. Illustrated by the artist.
Paris Les Humbles, 1919.
