Description from the seller
Silver & Enamel Floral Brooch – 835 Silver, Hand-Painted Enamel, Marcasite – Mid-20th Century
A striking and highly decorative large floral brooch crafted in solid 835 silver, embellished with hand-painted enamel and marcasite stones.
This large and sculptural piece features a dramatic flower with curling petals in shades of purple, orange and green, executed in thick vitreous enamel with beautiful colour transitions and naturalistic detailing.
The brooch is three-dimensional, with a raised trumpet-shaped flower and wide enamelled leaves, giving the piece exceptional presence when worn.
Material: Solid silver, 835 purity (hallmarked)
Decoration: Hand-painted enamel, marcasit stones
Dimensions: approx. 7.5 × 8.5 × 4 cm
Weight: approx. 45 g
Condition: Very good vintage condition. Enamel with minor wear consistent with age; marcasite stones complete. Pin mechanism fully functional.
Description
This brooch is an excellent example of mid-century Continental jewellery in the tradition of German and Austrian silver enamel workshops, known for combining sculptural naturalistic shapes with vivid enamel work.
The design displays a blend of Art Nouveau influence (organic lines, natural forms) and later Art Deco elements (marcasite accents), typical for high-quality jewellery produced from the 1950s.
Its generous size and strong colours make it a statement accessory as well as a desirable collector’s item.
Hallmarks
The reverse is stamped 835, confirming solid silver of continental European standard.
