Description from the seller
Condition: Open Box
Tamiya 1/18 Challenger Series No.5
1/18 Hard Mini Subaru R-2 SS
Item No: CS1805
A high-performance model that defied the conventions of kei cars. The Subaru R-2 SS revived in 1/18 large scale!
The Subaru R-2, introduced in 1969, was born as the successor to the legendary Subaru 360. Among these, the “SS” was a sports specification model equipped with a high-output air-cooled 2-cylinder engine producing 36 horsepower, a high-performance kei car that thrilled the youth of the era.
This kit is a masterpiece from Tamiya's “1/18 Challenger Series,” which the company modeled with all its might at the time. It combines intricate detailing impossible to achieve in 1/24 scale with a motorized running mechanism symbolic of the model culture of the era, making it a highly valuable collector's piece.
【Product Features】
・Overwhelmingly detailed sculpting only possible at 1/18 scale:
Faithfully reproduces the Subaru R-2's distinctive, refined styling known as the “Plane Shape”.
The large body, approximately 16.5cm (6.5 inches) long, conveys the compact yet powerful stance characteristic of kei cars of that era.
・Precise air-cooled engine and interior:
The rear engine hood opens and closes. Inside, the 2-stroke air-cooled 2-cylinder engine is meticulously reproduced, allowing you to appreciate the auxiliary equipment and suspension structure.
The Spartan interior trim and instrument panel are also finished with rich dimensionality.
・Enjoyment as a “Moving Model”:
The series' defining feature is its motorized specification. Using the separately sold RE-260 motor and AA batteries, you can enjoy powerful driving action.
・High-Quality Details:
The front wheels are steerable. Hollow rubber tires with rich texture add a solid look to the stance.
【Basic Specs】
・Scale: 1/18
・Series: Challenger Series No.5
・Type: Plastic model kit requiring assembly and painting
・Power: RE-260 motor (sold separately), 2 AA batteries (sold separately)
【Recommended Points】
As of 2025, unused examples are extremely rare, making this the ultimate item for vintage Tamiya collectors. Experience the thrilling performance of the “Subaru R-2 SS,” a car that colored the history of Showa-era motorization, right at your fingertips.
