Chinese export silver case, dating around 1885, made by the renowned silversmith Luen Wo of Shanghai. This distinctive piece features figurative scenes in relief and chased on both sides, enriched by a single shield-shaped cartouche that highlights its artistic value and craftsmanship.
The pencil case is complete with a lid also decorated with traditional Chinese motifs, typical of the period, where dragons and flowers intertwine in a dance of elegance.
The LW (Luen Wo) stamps and the Qing (慶) manufacturer’s mark attest to the authenticity and quality of the piece, making it a true treasure for collectors and enthusiasts.
Luen Wo is known for its high-quality silverware, competing with historic names like Wang Hing, and for reinterpreting the Peranakan style after 1880.
