Description from the seller
Rare box published in 1982, in a luxurious edition limited to 300 copies by Kazuhiko Fukuda, one of the best specialists in Shunga art, Ukiyo-e, painting, and woodcut. This edition is dedicated to Nishiki-e art (the technique of adding color to woodcuts, which appeared in 1760).
You have Harunobu, the first master of this technique, along with Ruysei, Kiyonaga, Utamaro, or Shunsho.
50 plates, numbered from 1 to 50, with title, date, author, and copyright on the back. They are printed on bistre card and remain in excellent condition, with very little manipulation—note the small horn on the first, which is the only one with it.
Fukuda used past tones to accurately represent the reality of these works from the late 18th century.
A complete 10-page booklet with Fukuda's commentaries on the birth of Nishiki-e and all the different plates (slight folds).
The plates are 21 x 29.7 cm, protected in a silver card slipcase.
All contained in a box with a violet silk cover with silver letters stamped. The corners of the box are slightly worn, with an old tape at the back.
All items stayed excellent, except for some yellow stains on the booklet's first page (inside stayed clear). The plates are excellent, and the box too.
