Italian-made mid‑century modern teak coffee table, 140 cm wide by 40.5 cm high and 50.5 cm deep, with a circular recessed ashtray on the top and a lower multi‑compartment storage including three vertical magazine compartments and three small drawers, in good used condition with minor age-related marks.
Description from the seller
Attribution: Italian production, probably from the 1950s to 1960s.
Elegant Italian-made coffee table from the mid-20th century, characterized by a distinctly functional and rational design, typical of post-war modern design. The structure, probably made of solid wood and veneered wood, features a refined dark finish that enhances the natural grain of the material.
The upper rectangular surface is enhanced by a recessed circular dish, presumably designed as an ashtray, a recurring element in the coffee tables of the period, intended for convivial and everyday use. Beneath the surface, the furniture incorporates a well-organized, articulated system composed of:
Three vertical compartments for magazines, arranged centrally.
Three small side drawers intended for objects, equipped with a pass-through hole like a socket.
A large, full-length lower shelf, useful as an additional support surface.
The structure rests on solid lateral supports that provide stability and a balanced architectural presence, while the asymmetrical arrangement of the internal elements recalls the functionalist approach typical of Italian design in the 1950s and 1960s, where aesthetics and utility coexist harmoniously.
This coffee table represents an excellent example of modernist multifunctional furniture, designed for the home living space, and stands out for its build quality, attention to detail, and intelligent space organization.
