Beautiful and ancient Fon mask from Benin. It is an inhabited and living work, emanating a unique presence. The artist who created it knew how to give it life and evoke emotions in us.
His gaze is deep and hypnotic. His vivid colors captivate our gaze and attention. He bears an impassive and focused expression. Whatever his function, he is fully invested in it. Under his eyes, three yellow streaks are visible; these are ethnic scarifications common to the Fon, Anago, and Yoruba. He wears a headdress typical of these populations. The sculpture is fine and well-executed. Masks of this style are rare. Made of dense, solid wood. Some cracks and imperfections are present; sold as-is, see photos.
