Description from the seller

Important baroque-style fountain mask depicting a lion's head, a traditional symbolic subject in ornamental architecture associated with strength, protection, and prestige, widely used in outdoor fountains and basins from the late 19th to the early 20th century.

The mask is made of solid cast brass and exhibits remarkable sculptural quality: a richly modeled mane, expressive facial features, and well-defined surfaces. From the lion's mouth protrudes a zoomorphic spout complete with an eye, snout, and dorsal decoration, through which water was dispensed.

The spout is contemporary with the mask, consistent in style, patina, and workmanship, and features internal threading for connection to the plumbing system.

The surface retains a beautiful natural antique patina, with yellow-golden and brown tones, consistent with age and outdoor exposure. The interior shows typical signs of casting, confirming a solid craftsmanship.

A decorative architectural element with a charming appeal, ideal for:
garden fountains
external walls in stone
rustic sinks
Restorations and architectural recovery projects
