Born Giuseppe Orlandini , he took the name of his maternal uncle, the botanist Attilio Zuccagni , when he died leaving him his heir, in 1807. Having graduated in medicine at the University of Pisa , and after having undertaken long journeys, in Italy and abroad, he returned to Florence to direct a private institute and dedicate himself to the world of education. He soon dedicated himself to the study of cartography and geography . In this context he began his most famous and complex works, such as the monumental compilations relating to the physical-historical-statistical Chorography of Italy
