Description from the seller

Attention: due to customs regulations we can only ship inside the European Union. Please ensure you have a valid EU shipping address before placing a bid.

Large high quality Roman bronze Patera with a circular bowl with integral handle, standing on a ringed foot. A rare find as the handle and bow are more often found separately.

There are incised decorations in form of a double border on the flared rim, inside the bowl near the rim and around the bottom. There are concentric rings visible on the bottom inside the bowl.
There is a smal piece missing in the flared rim, this was probably done on purpose in antiquity for efficient pouring.

In ancient times, a patera would have been used to serve food and drink at symposia/dinner parties or as an offering dish to pour libations of wine and other liquids at religious ceremonies.

Total length: ± 30,5 cm (including handle)
Diameter bowl: ± 19 x 17,5 cm
Total height: ± 8,5 cm

Condition: Very good solid and complete condition. Appealing patina which is a pallet of olive brown to black with areas of cuprite and malachite.
One very small hole in the bottom, visible signs of wear consistent with age and use, see images.

Certificate of Authenticity: available upon request (pdf-format).
