Description from the seller

Attention: due to customs regulations we can only ship inside the European Union. Please ensure you have a valid EU shipping address before placing a bid.

Ancient Greek pottery plate, finely wheel-made with a wide, shallow form and a neatly defined, slightly raised foot on the underside.

The upper surface displays a striking painted design: concentric circles at the centre, framed by a broad rim adorned with repeating vertical strokes. The decoration is executed in a reddish–brown slip over a lighter clay ground, typical of regional geometric traditions. The underside shows concentric circles at the centre, surrounded by a dynamic spiral pattern and framed by a broad rim with vertical strokes, echoing the geometric motifs of the interior.

Two small perforations near the inner slope of the plate indicate a practical function. Such holes were often added to allow the vessel to be suspended for drying after production, to hang as a storage or display piece, or to secure a cover or binding. Their presence reflects a deliberate, ancient modification rather than later damage.

Diameter: ± 20 cm

Intact condition, signs of wear consistent with age and use.
A well-preserved and visually engaging example of Greek geometric pottery, with both decorative appeal and evidence of its original utilitarian handling.

Certificate of Authenticity: available upon request (pdf-format).
