Description from the seller

The 'pound of butter' cores have made the reputation of the site of Grand-Pressigny (Indre-et-Loire). Because they resembled the shape of a pound of butter that farmers at the time molded before sale, these cores were commonly called 'pound of butter.' The flint blades were extracted from the core using the so-called 'Levallois' method. This method involves striking one face of a flint block (or other homogeneous rock) 'judiciously' to detach a flake from the opposite face, which had previously been given a convex curvature. Although Turonian flints from the area were used as early as the Paleolithic, what makes Grand-Pressigny famous are its blades and cores dating from the Neolithic.
