Description from the seller
Regency-style magazine table from early 19th century England
Refined magazine rack table, likely of English manufacture, dating to the first quarter of the 19th century, attributable to the Regency taste with elegant neoclassical influences and chinoiserie. The slender, well-proportioned structure is made of hardwood, presumably mahogany, with a shellac finish that retains a warm original patina.
The furniture features turned uprights mimicking bamboo, a decorative element typical of English cabinetmaking of the period, inspired by fascination with the Far East. The pierced sides with a linear geometric pattern combine function and aesthetics, allowing for the tidy storage of magazines, sheet music, or documents.
The rectangular upper surface, adorned with a delicate carved cordonatura along the edge, rests on four tapered legs connected by a crossed lower stretcher, a structural and decorative solution commonly found in Regency-style coffee tables intended for salons and libraries.
The condition is good, with normal signs of age and light surface wear consistent with its age, confirming its authenticity without compromising its solidity or usability.
An elegant and collectible piece of furniture, ideal for classic environments, eclectic interiors, or as an accent piece in contemporary settings, capable of combining functionality, history, and decorative taste.
