Traditional hand-woven cylindrical basket/couch case made of natural plant fibers from Southeast Asia, dating to the 1950s–1960s, 34 cm high, 25 cm wide, 15 cm deep, in excellent condition with only minor signs of wear, featuring geometric chevron and diamond motifs, with a cord closure, a braided carrying strap, and a hard cord-stop.
Description from the seller
Traditional woven case / basket – Southeast Asian craftsmanship – 20th century
Rare cylindro-conical case in traditional basketry, entirely handmade from natural plant fibers, originating from Southeast Asia (probably Indonesia, Borneo, or nearby regions), dating from the 20th century.
The object is distinguished by a very fine and dense braiding, alternating light brown and dark brown fibers, forming elaborate geometric patterns (chevrons, diamonds, and horizontal bands). This type of decoration is characteristic of artisanal productions from this region, where these containers were used for transporting personal items, foodstuffs, or ritual objects.
The slender and perfectly structured shape, with a rounded back and reinforced edge, demonstrates an excellent level of craftsmanship.
The set features a closure system with a cord, a braided carrying strap, and a small hard material cord lock, enhancing its functionality and authenticity.
An object that is both utilitarian and aesthetic, now sought after as an ethnographic art piece or a contemporary decorative element.
Features
Origin: Southeast Asia
• Period: 20th century
Materials: natural plant fibers
• Technique: traditional basketry, manual weaving.
• Motifs: geometric (chevrons, diamonds)

Very good overall condition, solid structure, beautiful patina of use.
