Successor of Antoninus Pius, he marked the so-called Golden Age of the Roman Empire, reigning from 161 to 180 AD. His historical philosophical education enabled him to confront a challenging reign, characterized by invasions, epidemics, and betrayals by his generals. He implemented administrative reforms to benefit the most needy sectors of society. During the harsh military campaigns, he wrote his philosophical work in Greek, 'Meditations'.
