Description from the seller

Arteluce 'Tikal 1555' designer lamp by Pier Giuseppe Ramella – Memphis style – Italy, 1980s – Heavy construction (7 kg)

Very special design lamp from the iconic Italian brand Arteluce, designed by Pier Giuseppe Ramella in the 1980s. The Tikal 1555 is a rare and valued example of postmodern design with clear influences from the colorful and graphic Memphis style.

The central element of the lamp consists of a semi-circular blue glass panel, with two half plastic globes (lampshades) attached to it—one on each side. This complete unit is fully rotatable 360 degrees relative to the sturdy black metal base, allowing for a playful and changing light pattern.

The blue glass panel has an eye-catching double-sided finish:

One side is etched, which diffuses the light and partially obscures it. This results in a soft reflection on the matte glass surface.

The other side is smoothly polished. On this side, light shines through the plastic hemisphere, resulting in the effect of a central, glowing globe—an optically strong and sculptural image.

This carefully crafted combination of materials and light effect makes the lamp visually intriguing and versatile. Moreover, the design is exceptionally well executed: weighing 7 kilograms, it belongs to the heavier and more robust designer lamps of its time.
