Neoclassical Salon Chair - Maple & Co. - Marquetry of lemonwood and bone
General Description
Exquisite late 19th-century salon chair (circa 1890), made by the renowned London firm Maple & Co. This piece is a magnificent example of the Edwardian Neoclassical style, distinguished by its refined marquetry work and the use of high-quality noble woods. The structure features an elegant silhouette with a highly intricate openwork backrest, incorporating floral motifs and classical urns.
Technical Details and Ornamentation
Manufacturer: Maple & Co. (London/Paris). Partial authenticity seal visible on the lower frame.
Materials: Structure made of noble wood (possibly rosewood or fine-grain mahogany) with rich inlays.
Marquetry: Exceptional work of marquetry using lemon wood for the phytomorphic details and carved bone for the floral accents and torch tips, providing a chromatic contrast of great delicacy.
Design: The backrest features an oval central medallion flanked by carved scrolls. The front legs are square in section with a tapered design, decorated with fine stringing and finished with original brass and ceramic wheels, facilitating movement.
Upholstery: Recently renovated by a master upholsterer. Features a vibrant green velvet fabric with a gold braid finish, respecting the traditional technique of visible straps and springs at the bottom.
