Description from the seller

Antique German Silver Purse Frame – 800 Solid Silver – c. 1880–1900 – Cherub & Floral Decoration – 186 g

A beautiful and richly decorated antique purse frame crafted in solid 800 silver, bearing the German hallmark crescent moon and crown, in use from 1888 onward. This finely pierced and chased frame shows excellent craftsmanship characteristic of late-19th-century silver ateliers.

Material: Solid silver, marked crescent moon & crown + 800
Origin: Germany
Period: Late 19th century (c. 1880–1900)

Dimensions:
• Width: 20 cm
• Height: 11 cm
• Border width: 4 cm
Chain 32cm x 2 approx. 64cm
Weight: 186 grams

The frame is designed with a richly open-worked, fully sculpted decoration featuring putti/cherubs, flowers, scrolls, and romantic motifs. These figures are executed in deep relief, surrounded by detailed floral garlands and baskets—an aesthetic influenced by Rococo revival and Historicism, very popular in Germany at the end of the 19th century.

The original side hooks and suspension chain are preserved, and the purse once attached to this silver frame would have been made of fine fabric or leather, used by an elegant lady of the period.

Hallmarks
The piece carries:
Crescent moon & crown – national German hallmark (introduced 1888)
800 – silver purity mark (80% silver)
These marks confirm the frame is made of solid German silver.

Good antique condition with normal signs of age and use. The silver shows light patina on the inside, which is consistent with authentic late-19th-century silverwork. Hinges and closures are functioning.

Today, this frame can be:
Restored with a new textile purse
Used as a collector’s item of historic silverwork
Displayed as a decorative object due to its exceptional detailing
A charming and finely crafted example of German silver purse mounts from the late 1800s.
