Description from the seller

This impressive fossil tooth belongs to one of the largest terrestrial predators ever lived: Carcharodontosaurus saharicus, often nicknamed the 'African T-Rex.' The specimen exhibits excellent preservation of the outer surface, with a natural patina and visible details of the dental structure along the entire length of the crown. The serrated edge is partially visible, demonstrating the highly specialized carnivorous function of the dinosaur.
The tooth is characterized by its curved shape and laterally compressed form, with sections highlighting the typical anatomy of carnivorous theropods.
Carcharodontosaurus saharicus was a gigantic theropod that could reach 13-14 meters in length and weigh over 7 tons, making it one of the largest known predatory dinosaurs, alongside Giganotosaurus, Tyrannosaurus rex, and Spinosaurus (which lived in the same region).
The name 'Carcharodontosaurus' means 'shark-toothed lizard,' referencing its serrated teeth similar to those of the great white shark (Carcharodon). These teeth were perfect for tearing flesh, an ideal adaptation for an apex predator.
The species was discovered for the first time in 1927, but many remains were destroyed during World War II. In subsequent years, excavations in the Kem Kem formation (rich in Cretaceous fauna) uncovered teeth and bones attributable to this formidable creature.
This specimen is a perfect collectible piece, highly sought after by both amateur paleontologists and experienced collectors. The well-preserved teeth, over 10 cm in size, are rare and prized for their grandeur, historical significance, and aesthetic value. An iconic tooth for those who collect fossils of large Mesozoic predators.
