Description from the seller
This splendid specimen of Mexican fossil amber comes from the Simojovel region in the state of Chiapas, Mexico, an area geologically remarkable for the formation of transparent and polychrome ambers dating back to the Lower Miocene. Carefully polished and smoothed, the surface reveals extraordinary internal complexity made up of plant inclusions, natural pigmentation, and iridescent zones that react to oblique or UV light.
Scientific and Geological Data
Name: Ambra del Chiapas
Geological origin: Mazantic Shale formation
Location: Simojovel de Allende, Chiapas, Mexico
Age: Lower Miocene, approximately 22-26 million years ago.
Training environment: Ancient subtropical tropical rainforest, similar to current Central American rainforests.
Resin-producing tree: Hymenaea mexicana (an extinct species of the Fabaceae family).
Chemical composition: Polymers of organic compounds based on terpenic structures, approximate formula C₁₀H₁₆O.
Fossilization: slow polymerization in an oxygen-free environment that allowed the preservation of internal structures, inclusions, and chromatic features.
Features of the specimen
Dominant color: amber red with transparent areas and golden and orange reflections.
Optical effect: three-dimensional internal luminosity, with glows emerging from different depths.
In inclusion: Possible fragments of plant material or mineralized organic traces
UV fluorescence: strong (yellow-green), with possible bluish reactions.
Finishing: sanded and hand-polished, irregular but harmonious shape.
Chiapas amber is among the most appreciated in the world for its transparency, rarity, and presence of fossil inclusions. It represents a natural archive that preserves ancient evidence of plant and animal life in tropical environments of the Cenozoic. This specimen, due to its beauty and unique features, is ideal for collectors, researchers, and enthusiasts of natural history.
