Description from the seller
'ARENA signes des sables' by Lucien Clergue in excellent condition.
2001 - Actes Sud - 29cm x 25cm - First Edition - French - 140 pages - dust jacket
The book as well as the dust jacket are in excellent condition (see the attached photos).
An exhibition presented at the Villa Aurélienne in Fréjus during the summer of 2001 offers a discovery of the photographer's work along three axes: life — through his nudes of women —, death — with photographs of bulls and carcasses —, and the four elements — illustrated by the language of sands.
Born in Arles in 1934, Lucien Clergue is in himself a monument of photography in France. A photographer in love with Arles and the Camargue, passionate about bullfighting. Best known for his work on the nude, his career truly began in 1957 when Seghers published his first photo album of nudes, Corps mémorables, with a cover created by his friend Picasso, poems by Éluard, and an opening poem by Cocteau, thus establishing him in the world of arts and photography. Introduced to the United States by Edward Steichen, exhibited from New York to Tokyo, and teaching worldwide, he founded and directed 'Les Rencontres d'Arles' until 1995.
The book will be carefully packed and shipped with a tracking system.
