Description from the seller
Heller 80620 - SMIT ROTTERDAM
Smit Rotterdam was the first of the two to leave the slipway on December 6, 1974, after being christened by Queen Juliana.
In mid-April 1975, the tugboat was put into service at Smit, immediately being deployed as the leading tugboat for transporting the drilling and production platform 'Beryl-A' of the Condeep type, weighing 350,000 tons. It was towed over a distance of 216 miles from Stavanger to the Beryl field of Mobil Oil, in the North Sea part of England, along with the 'Noordzee' (11,000 hp) and the Bugsier tugboats 'Atlantic,' 'Wotan' (both with a power of 12,500 hp), and the 'Päcific' (10,000 hp), totaling approximately 42,000 hp of pulling power.
In 1986, the tugboat was incorporated into Smit Tak International Ltd., Nassau, and in 1991, the sea tugboats of Smit Internationale and Wijsmuller were merged into the partnership 'SmitWijs Towage C.V', and today the tugboat operates under the name "Smitwijs Rotterdam".
