Manuscripts of the XVIIth Century - Sealed Paper of Felipe IV and Carlos II (1661-1673) - Legal Documents, a single book in Spanish from the Spanish Crown, 12 pages, dating from 1651 to 1663, in good condition.
Description from the seller
Exceptional lot of original 17th-century notarial documents, written on official sealed paper of the Spanish Crown. These pieces offer a fascinating window into the legal and economic administration of the Habsburg era.
Batch details
Document 1 (1661): Sheet of sealed paper with the coat of arms of Felipe IV. The heading reads: 'Second seal, sixty-eight maravedís, year one thousand six hundred sixty-one.'
Document 2 (1673): Notarial deed from the reign of Charles II with authorization date: 'Valga sixty-eight mfs for the year one thousand six hundred seventy-three.'
It concerns legal writings, primarily lease agreements and financial obligations, that mention transactions in ducats and maravedís. The texts identify individuals such as Juan Menéndez and Juan de Lemos, along with references to the city of Écija and other localities.
Calligraphy: An excellent example of transitional late/humanistic procedural script, with highly elaborate and legible notarial signatures.
Condition status
Excellent for its age (more than 350 years). The paper retains its original consistency; the ferrogálica ink is dark and sharp, without the common acid perforations found in documents from this period. The original watermarks and dry royal validation seals are visible.
Importance for the collector
Ideal pieces for students of paleography, collectors of sealed paper (postal/fiscal history), or those interested in the social history of Spain's Golden Age.
