Description from the seller
An exceptional centerpiece of French origin, distinguished by its exquisite craftsmanship and enviable state of preservation despite its long history.
-Origin: France. The hallmark and the style of the reliefs are characteristic of French luxury craftsmanship of the last century.
-Period: Late 19th/Early 20th Century (1880-1920). Although the metal retains a mirror-like shine, the depth of the patina in the recesses of the chased work denotes prolonged use and superior historical authenticity.
-Époque Eclectic/Belle Époque Era (1871-1914). During this time, artists and architects moved away from adhering to a single, strict style, blending elements from various historical periods.
-Style: Louis XV. It features a lobed design with sinuous edges.
-Material: High-quality silver-plated alpaca, also known as German silver or Maillechort in France. A noble base metal with a thick silver plating.
- Hallmark/Mark:
*On the right, a maker's mark depicting a tower, clearly visible and through its own shadow. This type of symbol typically identifies regional or guild silversmiths in France.
*Central inscription: "ALPACA".
*Number "66" on the left, indicating the weight of silver used, typical of higher-quality pieces.
-Technique: embossed and chased. High-relief decoration with motifs of wildflowers, acorns, and bunches of fruit, worked on a grained background to enhance the visual volume.
-Measurements:
*Total diameter: 26 cm.
*Diameter of the background: 13 cm.
*Height: rises from 5 cm to 5.8 cm..
-Condition: The piece is in excellent condition. It has no chips or damage to the silver plating. Its current brilliance is the result of meticulous care over decades, preserving the original patina in the deeper areas of the design, which enhances its antique and genuine character.
Ideal for those seeking a centerpiece with a true history and the unmistakable mark of French craftsmanship.
