Circular opalescent pressed glass centerpiece from France dating circa 1925–1930, depicting three stylised fish among aquatic plants in Art Deco naturalist style; diameter 26.5 cm, height 6.5 cm, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Fish-themed table centerpiece
Opalescent pressed molded glass round centerpiece, of remarkable decorative refinement, depicting three stylized fish swimming among aquatic grasses in a fluid and rhythmic movement characteristic of naturalist Art Deco aesthetics.
The decor, treated in deep relief, plays with a milky opalescence with bluish and pearlescent reflections, subtly concentrated on the bodies of the fish, creating an almost aquatic light effect. The widely spread fins, delicately depicted bubbles, and the undulating lines of the vegetation testify to an exceptional technical mastery of molding, typical of high-quality Vermix productions.
This piece is part of the production of the Manufacture Verlys, a Parisian entity active in the 1920s, prior to the adoption of the name Sabino, a period now particularly sought after by collectors for the purity of its models and the finesse of its opalescences. Aquatic themes — fish, shells, seaweed — constitute one of the house's emblematic repertoires, in line with the French decorative revival of the interwar period.
With its generous dimensions and quality decor, this centerpiece stands out as an exceptional piece, both as a decorative object and a sculpture of light, perfectly representative of French Art Deco artistic glass.
Diameter: 26.5 cm
Condition: Very good state of preservation (to be described precisely according to examination).
Origin: France
