Porsche poster, official factory edition for the 1984 1000 KM Silverstone, designed by Studio Strenger.
Description from the seller
Official first and only edition Porsche factory poster for the 1984 1000KM of Silverstone victory. Design by the famous Studio Strenger, well-known for their work for the factory over many years.
The 1984 1000KM of Silverstone race was dominated by Porsche 956 with 8 out of the top 10 finishers. The results show many famous racing drivers. Besides the winners Jacky Ickx and Jochen Mass, you will find ao: Ludwig, Pescarolo, Baldi, Boutsen, Lammers, Bell, Bellof and the mysterious (John) ‘Winter’!
The Porsche 956 and its successor, the 962, including the later Dauer developed car, were hugely successful racing cars in long distance racing all over the world, notably on Le Mans and Spa-Francorchamps but also on the Nürburgring, Silverstone, Fuji and Stateside at Sebring and Daytona. They successfully fought off competition in Group C from the likes of Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Toyota, Mazda and Mercedes. Having this poster on the wall of your living room, man cave or garage will provide you with a great talking point. It is a striking image, with beautiful typography, imagery and deep colours. The winning Rothmans 956 is charging towards you in all its well-photographed dominance. Some research on the racing driver John Winter will boost your (Porsche) racing history credibility even further!
This poster is featured in the standard work “Porsche - Die Rennplakate” by Lewandowski on page 112.
Just to be very clear given what I see featured on Catawiki as well. This is the real deal. No ‘sanctioned replica’ posters or “art inspired by ..”. Also no sadness like the “you know you are not the first, but do you really care?”, “nothing handles curves better”, “it’s named 911 but it feels like 69 all the way” inspired series. No. This is an original factory issued poster by Studio Strenger. They were issued to dealerships shortly after racing successes were achieved or racing calendars issued. I acquired them at auctions in Germany in the 90s. These are highly collectible and are actually actively collected by Porsche connoisseurs around the globe. Looking from a value perspective, these original period productions are the only ones that have further value enhancement potential. Please collect with heart and brains and invest wisely!
Porsche official parts number: WWM 322 510
The poster is in good condition, especially given its age of 41 years. Colours are beautiful and deep. The left lower corner has a tiny part missing, easily falling away in framing. The left upper corner shows some typical creasing from previous storage. No pinholes of course. The right hand corners are near perfect. Please see images. If you have this poster professionally framed, you will have the most beautiful investment grade home or garage decoration.
The poster is delivered in a sturdy large diameter cardboard tube, while the poster itself is wrapped in sheet plastic before it goes into the tube. Shipment of course always insured, with track & trace.
Splendid image for on your own wall, but also a magnificent, original and unique gift for an automotive friend and / or Porsche fan (Maybe born in 1984?)
