Description from the seller
This fascinating ashtray is an authentic piece of Italian design history, attributed to the creative genius of Dino Martens (1894-1970), one of the most important glass designers of Murano in the twentieth century. Although it is unsigned, its distinctive features clearly link it to the production of the A.VE.M. (Arte Vetraria Muranese) glassworks, with which Martens collaborated extensively.
The design and technique used are a perfect example of Martens' famous style known as 'Tutti Frutti' or 'Oriente'.
Main Features
Glassworks: Attributed to Dino Martens for A.VE.M.
Period: 1950s
Technique: The ashtray is made using a complex submerged technique in which a dark ruby-colored glass base is infused with inclusions of canes and fragments of colored glass (millefiori, aventurina, milk glass with murrine), creating an explosion of vibrant colors and a unique texture.
Design: The shape is an ode to the organic design of the era. Its sinuous lines and asymmetrical mouth make it a sculptural object, perfect to be displayed as a piece of art.
Features: Ideal as an ashtray, a pocket emptier, or simply as a striking decorative element.
Conditions: Excellent
Added Value
Owning this ashtray means holding in your hands not only a high-quality crafted object but also an iconic piece that has defined an era of glass design. Its attribution to Dino Martens makes it a highly sought-after item among collectors and vintage design enthusiasts.
