Chamba statues are rare, and their use remains little-known.

Often covered with a thick patina, they are used to communicate with spirits.

Their shape reflects certain traits of the nearby Mumuyé statuettes.

These statues, sometimes larger in size, were apparently linked to the cult of ancestors and the "first mother", as well as to rituals for healing mental ailments. However, this type of sculpture remains rare among the Chamba and their initial function remains almost uncertain. Nevertheless, one cannot remain indifferent to the qualities of Chamba statuary work, depicting complex and astonishing harmonies of angles, curves and volumes.
