Description from the seller

A magnificent French centerpiece, a true embodiment of the luxury and refinement of the Belle Époque. This centerpiece is not only a functional object but also a decorative piece that captures the essence of Parisian salons at the end of the 19th century.
Detailed Analysis
-Origin: France. The design and type of punching are characteristic of French precious metalwork of the period.
-Period: 1890-1910 - Belle Époque (approximately 1871-1914). Its aesthetic perfectly reflects the resurgence of interest in 18th-century French style that occurred during this period.
-Style: Neo-Rococo (Louis XV). It stands out for its dynamism, the asymmetry of its plant motifs, and the elegant, whiplash curves that foreshadow Art Nouveau.
-Quality Mark: It features the French circular hallmark with the inscription "M. PLAT" (Métal Plaqué) on a grid design, indicating a thicker silver plating, typical of high-end tableware. The hallmark with the globe is very characteristic of French silversmithing from the late 19th and early 20th centuries (brands such as Société Française d'Alliage de Métaux and similar brands used similar iconography).
-Material: Base metal (brass) with high-density electrolytic silver plating.
-Technique: Relief work using molding and hand-finishing of the floral and rocaille details.
-Ornamentation: Scalloped and lobed rim decorated with scallop shells, intertwined scrolls, and rose bouquets. The body is divided into curved segments or gadroons that add depth and a dynamic shine.
-Dimensions:
*Major axis: 30.5 cm
*Minor axis: 29 cm
*Center of the fruit bowl: 12.5 cm in diameter
*Height: 5-5,7cm
-Condition: Good antique condition. After meticulous cleaning to remove decades of oxidation (black patina), the piece boasts a spectacular shine. It retains slight signs of use and traces of dark patina, especially in the background of the relief, which is shown in the photos. These features guarantee its age and provide a mark of authenticity highly valued by collectors.
By acquiring this magnificent centerpiece, you are not only acquiring a silver plated object, but a piece of French artisanal history that has regained its luster after years of dormancy under black rust.
