Description from the seller
Antique wooden Christ corpus – 18th century – 47 cm – fragmented
Carved Christ figure made of wood, presumably of southern German or Alpine origin, from the 18th century. The figure was originally part of a crucifix and displays high-quality craftsmanship with well-proportioned anatomy and a calm expression.
The original polychromy (coating) is preserved in remnants, heavily worn due to age, and with missing parts. Visible are old coating remnants in brown, ochre, and green tones. The back side is left raw and shows age-related traces as well as old fastening and dowel holes.
The arms are fragmented or detached, and the original wooden dowels are still partially present. It is an original historical object, not a modern work or later re-carving.
The condition corresponds to the advanced age: drying cracks, wear, missing parts, and signs of aging are present. The object is unrestored and uncleaned, exactly as found.
An authentic collection, study, or restoration object for enthusiasts of sacred art, folk art, and historical wood sculptures.
