Year of construction 1966 — 60 years old!!
649-2 1:87 Mercedes Shell Tanker was an HO 1:87 Vehicles set released in 1966. It includes a yellow truck with a Shell petrol tank and was one of the very first licensed Shell sets. It was packaged in an open cardboard presentation box. It was only released in continental Europe.
The Shell logo on the side was visible as Shell and SHELL in different editions of the set.
This truck was also included in the 699 Truck Assortment.
This Mercedes truck was also used for the set 650 Mercedes Esso Tanker, with the difference that the colors and the logo had been changed.
It is a co-branded set with Shell.

The LEGO HO 1:87 Vehicles subtheme, also known as LEGO small vehicles, were plastic sets released in the 1950s and 1960s to complement LEGO sets that could be used to build houses, gas stations, garages, shops, and more. These vehicle sets were produced for nearly ten years until they were replaced in the early 1970s by LEGOLAND vehicles. LEGO made these small vehicles at a 1:87 scale until around 1969.
