Sculpture "Le Baiser" (The Kiss) in an “as new” state.
This signed patinated bronze sculpture is one of the most beautiful artworks made by Auguste Rodin.
The sculpture, The Kiss, was originally titled Francesca da Rimini, as it depicts the 13th-century Italian noblewoman immortalised in Dante's Inferno who falls in love with her husband Giovanni Malatesta's younger brother Paolo.
Having fallen in love while reading the story of Lancelot and Guinevere, the couple are later discovered and killed by Francesca's husband.
Before creating the marble version of The Kiss, Rodin produced several smaller versions of this sculpture in plaster, terracotta and bronze.
Signed bronze sculpture.
In the original ATLAS black velvet lined gift box .
Including the original wooden base.
This is the larger Atlas edition.
No scratches, cracks, chipping or dents. In an excellent/ as new condition.
