Polished flint axe from the Neolithic Michelsberg culture, made from local flint, measuring 107 x 55 mm, in excellent condition with an authenticity certificate and provenance from a Belgian private collection (acquired in 2000).
Description from the seller
Small polished axe made from the local flint of Spiennes and surrounding areas. Typical of the Middle Neolithic Michelsberg culture. These tools were used for working wood. Some were mounted in wooden handles. The site of Spiennes near Mons is world-famous for its large number of silex mines and is one of the largest exploitations of this product in Europe. The modern local museum is definitely worth a visit.
In good condition and no restorations.
Dimensions 107 x 55 mm.
An authenticity certificate is provided with each sold lot.
