Pathé Coquet phonograph, model Coquet with Système Vérité, manufactured in 1905, in good physical condition and tested working; includes 5 items, plus an extra object, four 2‑minute records, a Salon cylinder mandrel, and a dust cover, weighing 11 kg.
Description from the seller
Pathé Coquet
The company Pathé introduced in 1903 a cylinder phonograph called Coquet. The Pathé Coquet was promoted as an inexpensive phonograph for the mass market, affordable for everyone. It cost 35 francs. The original Pathé Coquet could play Edison standard cylinders, but later models had an additional mandrel. This slid over the original roll, allowing the machine to also play larger Salon cylinders. This machine was sold by a mail-order company called Girard & Boitte. The company's logo is placed on the front of the machine. The device features another invention by Pathé, the quite bizarre 'système Vérité.' This system looks daring, with brackets, sliders, and various adjustment options, but in practice, it is cumbersome and prone to malfunctions.
Note: As mentioned, this phonograph makes an impressive impression with the 'système Vérité', but is difficult to set up and is sensitive to malfunctions.
So, it's more of a curiosity than a phonograph for comfortable listening!
Delivered 4 pieces of 2-minute records in good condition; and the setup mandrel for playing Saloncylinders, and the dust cover.
The phonograph is in used condition with signs of wear. Please see the photos.
The steering motor runs with some noise and is well-sized. See sound clips.
